Herniated disc symptoms
Herniated disc symptoms can be mild to severe, occasionally there are no symptoms at all. Mild symptoms include numbness, tingling or irritation. Severe symptoms include pain and even paralysis.
Herniated disc symptoms are caused by the swelling or bulging of one or more discs in the spine. This puts pressure on the nerves in the spine or on the nerve as it comes out of the spine.
The most common symptom is known as “sciatica”. The area of the lower back where the sciatic nerve comes out of the spine is particularly subject to disc problems. This can cause severe pain in the back and in the legs, sometimes all the way down to the toes.
These conditions can be so severe as to prevent the patient from working or even from walking or standing.
The treatment of herniated disc symptoms rarely requires surgery. Surgery is only appropriate in about 10% of cases.
Even though the problem can be severe, for most patients the problem can heal itself with rest, cold compresses and common analgesics such as acetaminophen.
The long-term treatment for herniated disc symptoms
The body has a marvellous ability to heal itself. But if the under-laying conditions are not corrected, the problem will very likely re-occur and may actually cause further damage to the discs near by. The long-term treatment for herniated disc symptoms must come from a careful life-style adjustment which may ultimately require weight-loss and regular physical activity.
The first step to treatment must start with a careful diagnosis as to exact location and severity of the damage to the disc. Orthopedic specialists use CT Scans and MRI scans to locate and evaluate the exact condition.
For a professional evaluation and a long-term treatment and therapy, Health Services International has been sending patients to Cuba to be treated by some of the world’s finest orthopedic specialists. Dont’ wait any longer, act now!
